help with an old fish finder price

Recommended Posts

I would just like to say hello to everybody and I think this forum is by far the most informative one I have read so far. So thanks for the info. I have a small question about a fish finder my friends dad is trying to get rid of. It is a Humminbird LCR8000, it is in exelent condition, has all the parts still in the package, and he said he baught it in 1985 when they first came on the market for about $450.00. He said he only used it once. So i was wondering if you guys could think of a fair price for it. Thanks so much.

I would offer him $50.00 for it.

I am not sure what features that one has but if it is from '85 its 20 years old!  I would bet you could by a bottom of the line sonar now and it would be better than that one.

Not much on features. Just your basic depth and temp. The screen on it is pretty big and clear though I put it in my pool and it seems to work ok. It picked up a crank bait I ran past it a couple of times. But you are right I could get a decent new one for a hundred bucks so maybe ill just let him keep it. Thanks

In 85 the computers operated on dos and fishing electronics were still in their infency and hadn't evolved from flashers long at least for gen. & public use.  I think the fact that he has used it once pretty much speaks for it's self.  Even if it does work reasonably well I am not sure that a LCD screen is very durable, it probably uses alot more power to operate than todays models and you probably will never find parts.  I would think a collector would give this one a better home than a fisherman.

Thanks for all your help. I gave it back to him and told him he should list it on e-bay. can you guys recomend a decent one for a hundred to a hundred and fifty bucks. I have been looking for one for a while now and this is the first one I have ever baught so I dont really know whats good and whats not. And its hard to take the manufacturers word cause they are all the best according to them.

Sir Muddpuppy, I like that.  Anyway a friend of mine bought I believe a Lowarance X-47 on sale for around $80.00 at BPS.  It is a basic unit, I know it had temp. maybe speed.  As far as I know he liked it ok.  He sold the boat and unit to his cousin and I haven't heard of any problems that he has had.
