Anyone with lowrance problems???

Recommended Posts

I have two Lowrance units on my boat, and replaced the one on my front deck about 15 months ago...bought a new X125 (mid-range cost, think it was $299).

I have always been pleased.  But this unit is one I have not been happy with since installing it.  My boat is gargage kept, and was on the water MAYBE 20 times heading in to the spring, and I will be darn if the temp gauge is measuring about 35 degrees to high.  Garage kept, 15 months old...come on.

Anyway, I have been on the website, and there have been about 10 calls made this week to the company.  I have left two messages.  AND, NO call back.

Anyone have a problem with Lowrance as of late, if ever? Never had a problem before this.  As well, anyone have the X125 unit and had any problems with it?  Curious about coming responses. Thanks.

I recently bought a new boat and had the lms 332c put on it. The boat is about 2 weeks old now and over the weekend the gps receiver went out. Other than when I'm fish it was garage kept. I called the 1-800 # and tried everything they said. After that we took it to the dealer and they just put in a new receiver. Works good for now, hope it won't be a problem in the future.

I purchased a 136DF Lowrance last spring.  After I set it up for my use, it performed great.  BUT the last two trips I made the depth range, while traveling, locks up.  I made no modifications to the setup prior to this happening.  I reset the unit to factory default, ran the boat, still same results, depth range locks up.  The only thing I can recall doing is coating the transducer with armour all.  I have scrubbed the transducer clean and will see if it changes anything the next outage.  If not I will be contacting Lowrance.

The main problem I have with them, everyone I've had starts fogging inside the display after several months use. I have had a couple of transducers the temp unit will quit in. Turn the LCD off and back on and the temp will start working again for a while.

As for working at speed, that why I have a good console flasher also. At 60 mph the LCD might show you what's 100 yds behind you, at 75 I haven't found one that will even register the bottom. Flash graph is a great improvement but still doesn't match my flasher with running flat out.  I'm shooting the flasher through the hull in the center of the pad and the graph's is mount on the next strake out.  The pad is probably lifting the that transducer out of the water when it's running more than 75.

  • 2 weeks later...

I switched the pages on my 136 df to the flasher.  I received the same issue, depth lock-up.  I am at a loss with this issue.  I bought this in the spring last year.  Never had any issues with speed and depth.

It doesn't make sense it is random.  I adjusted my ping speed but that didn't help either.

I do have a temporary fix though.  My son is in from college for the summer.  I can grab him by the ankles and hold him over the edge of the boat while moving :(.  Wonder if he will kick any?

I have an Eagle 480 with the trolling motor and a Lowrance LMS480 GPS on my dash. The Eagle works fine but the Lowrance tends to freeze up after a while when the boat is just floating when I'm fishing coves. Both are made by Lowrance.

I just upgraded my display unit to the 7" LCX17M GPS unit which is a plug and play replacement for LMS480 does not freeze up. I do believe that settings for how fast it reads may be the reason why my LMS480 was freezing up it seemed to read very well at 46MPH I replaced it because the bigger screen of the LCX17M gave me a larger viewing area when using the split screen option. I'm using a single 200khz transducer.

ball coach,I have had some problems with Lowrance units lately also. The first was the X85,supposedly one of the best Lowrance units ever made.....well the backlight went out and I couldnt switch it over to manual after about 3 months use.I like using the manual mode most of the time.I then bought an X91,installed it and immediately started having probs with it.The main one was that the graph showed fish everywhere I went, from the top of the screen to the bottom, all the way across.....it was like I had huge fish under the boat at all times,1 foot of water or 100 foot,I was always showing fish. Then when I would try to switch it over so I could see fish arches instead,I never got the first arch to come across the screen. This was weird because when I would be showing nothing on the screen(fish, brush, humps etc..)my in-dash flasher would be lit up like a Christmas tree and we were catching fish that, according to the Lowrance, werent there.CRAZY!....

But if your temp gauge is reading 35 deg too high,I would say that you got a bad transducer, they should replace that no problem.(if you can get thru to them)
