Josh256v
on my 88 Stratos, i have an oooooold lowrance up fron, and an oooold humminbird flasher. i don't feel like i need to spend a ton on electronics, i've heard good things about Eagle products and they are very affordable. i'm lookin at either the Eagle Cuda 128, or Cuda 168, seeing as how i only want depth, temp, and a graph that shows the bottom and fish. a guy told me i need to keep the flasher b/c it is better to use while running the boat. my idean was to put both a graph up front and on the console to replace the flasher. I said all of that to ask this....Do I need to Keep the flasher, and would it be a bad idea to have both the flasher and a new digital fish finder on the console? gamblerOH
The flasher is the most important piece of equipment on your boat. Not only are they more accurate but work much faster than a fishfinder so when you are running on plane they are still giving accurate info, this is important if you are fishing water that can get shallow fast, by the time a fishfinder shows the correct depth you have already totaled your boat After you learn to read a flasher you wont want a fishfinder on the console(unless you want a GPS) anyway. A flasher will show drop offs and points much better than a fishfinder, you also get a much better idea of the taper of a drop off. Keep the flasher ;D
Josh256v
i will def keep the flasher then, is it a bad idea to put a fishfinder up there too? i was thinkin about my partner, it would be more convenient that him askin and me having to tell him. i friend of mine has one in his console and it is easy for me to see. so is this a bad idea putting one up there too. maybe i'll just move the older lowrance up there....it shows depth, and the bottom... gamblerOH
I Have both on my console, I just use the flasher more when driving or idling around looking. Its nice you are looking out for the guy in the back, thats rare. If you are going to save up to buy a fishfinder then buy a good one. Dont go cheap since a cheap one wont be as good as your flasher. I noticed you play golf, did you play in college? Josh256v
thought about playin college golf. i had a rough senior year, our team won plenty of tourneys, we just weren't stellar. I could have played Junior College. I bought a new truck and had to have a full time job so that made golf tough to do. I like playing recreationally now, no pressure. I love fishin tho, and i love my boat. i'm trying to learn alot so i can be good.
JTL
GamblerOH... On some of the Lowrance finders you can switch it over so that it shows as a flasher... is that the same as a flasher only unit or is it a little slower like it is if you are using it as a finder? gamblerOH
mine switches over like that but I still dont think its as fast as a regular flasher, since its working from a fishfinder transducer I think it has to be slower. Maybe someone else on here knows the differences that can explain it better than me.
