What's up with my waters?

Featured Replies

My local pond, probably ~2 acres, is fishing weird. The bass have spawned, bluegill are spawning right now, air temps are 85-95 (have been for a week or two). Bass are in at most a foot of water. Shouldn't they be deeper?

Not necessarily. Bass are pretty adaptable and will often be where the best food supply is. In a small pond, the center of the food universe is frequently the shoreline edge.

Yup. Food is more important to bass than our idea of where they should be. Most small pond bass feed on insects. Not like bass in big lakes where their food is more diverse.

id say most small pond bass feed on more than insects. theres frogs, lizards, rodents, perhaps crawdads, other fish and other things that hang out in ponds for the bass to eat.
