hey guys i wanted to know if anyone has ever replaced their starter rope on their motor.  mine broke this morning and i wish to fix it myself.  i have a model 200 20hp merc that is a 1970.  i have taken it apart and im all the way to the point where it looks like i have to take a nut off which is located on the top of the housing.  it appears that if you take this nut off the spool which has the rope will drop out.  the nut just doesnt want to come off.  any info.  will be greatly appreciated.

    Listen to LBH. I have taken the nut off the top of the spool and the spring unwinded. Its a pain in the a$$ to get it woun back up and get the nut back on. The nut may also be left hand thread.

    thanks guys.  it was left hand thread.  i got it off with no problems and got it fixed.
