Just added to my already massive bass fishing library. BASS' s 13th year anniversary book. Reprinted articles of their magazine from 1967-1980. Select articles of course.

That's pretty cool. I think it'd be interesting to compare techniques and baits from then to now. I would imagine though that as much as things have changed, many things have stayed the same.

You pretty much nailed it. Back then, nobody cared how much a reel weighed. Nearly every one used an Ambassadeur 5000 reel, with a 5 1/2' baitcasting rod. I remember when the crankbait craze started with the "Big O".

I got a large leather-bound set a couple of months ago used-around 20 books +/-, I think it's called the Ultimate Bass Library.  It's basically just a ton of old bassmaster articles culled through for quality and grouped up by topic, each book focuses on an individual theme.

If you haven't seen that set, I'd recommend checking Ebay or Amazon for them!!  I have really enjoyed them so far.

If you haven't read an article before, it's still new, right?? :)

I've got that book. I admit I haven't looked at in years. I got it passed down to me after my father passed away over 30 years ago. I also got a copy of the In-Fisherman book from him, "Largemouth Bass Handbook of Stategies" which was autographed by all the original authors including Al and Ron Lindner.

Don't know if this is the set you're talking about. It might be.

Even a young gun has heard of that first one. I picked it up at a used bookstore and have read it multiple times. Great book! There's a really good article in it from either Rick Clunn or Roland Martin about 10 mistakes that weekend anglers make. Great read.

Yep, that looks like some of the same set I mentioned Hootie!!

I think the Blue ones on the bottom are from some other library, not BASS right? Maybe North American Fishing Club or something like that??

I like the old InFisherman handbooks too.  I never knew I was supposed to call Reelfoot Lake Eutrophic before reading that :)

Yes, the blue ones are North American Fishing Club.

Hootie,

Thanks for posting this! I wasn't even aware that these books existed.  I searched "Bassmaster Best" on Amazon and found 5 of these compilation books!!  They are around 350 pages each with lots of great articles that are all still new-to-me, dirt cheap too :)

I put the can in the pic as a size reference. There's more reading here than War and Peace, without all of the literary symbolism and complexity to bog you down...sorry Tolstoy, it needed to be said :)

Classics for sure

Most of the fishing techniques mentioned in these old books work very well in today's age.

You guys made me go out and find a set of Ultimate Bass Library Books.

They will compliment my other Fishing book library.

Plenty of reading for the winter.
