fishn bear
hey, Im new to this site and it looks like a great place to find a lot of info and help on anything to do with fishing. I currently own a 12' v-hull gamefisher boat with an 8hp honda four-stroke on it. Its a great boat but im looking for something in the 14'-15' range to give me more room. I want something light enough to use my 8hp on because i love that little motor. I fish mostly small lakes but want a boat that can handle a small chop if needed. Any ideas would be a great help! Ben
If I was wanting to match a bigger boat to a 8 hp motor, I would not look at anything larger than a 1442 jon and would lean a lot more toward the 1436. The 1442 will be a lot more stable and your little motor should still be able to get it on plane and scoot on along with it as long as you don't have loaded heavy with a couple of big men and gear. It will not be a speed boat by no means but will get you around a couple thousand acres reasonably well. If you think a 1436 gives you enough room, I would go with that over the 1442. Most likely you will have to go to a smaller pitch prop on the motor so it can get up into it's recommend rpm range
Super User Grey Wolf Posted December 15, 2005 Super User Share Posted December 15, 2005 Check out the Lowes 1448. I've got one with a 6 h.p. Johnson and really love it on smaller lakes.
Triton_Mike
I will have to disagree with Ben a tad here. A 1442 boat will probably go just as fast if not faster than a 1436 boat. Reason being is because it is wider therefore not sinking under the water as much as a 1436 (Narrower beam) boat. I would get the widest boat you can afford. We have alot of electric only lakes here and several bass clubs that do electric only and they have proven this theory time and time again. fishn bear
I have found a couple of jon boats that i think might be what im looking for. I am looking at a lowe 1440M and a waco c-14 http://www.wacomfg.com/2006line/WacoBoats/P9C14-C16Crappie.asp the waco is advertised as a crappie boat but looks like it might make a good bass boat as well. Both have a seni-v front which i like or choppy days. Any one have any experience with these boats or any recommendations on which would make the better boat.
