kbj3579
Why wouldn't this work? I have a 2005 Champion 187 cx. I am considering cutting a square out of the front deck and having a stainless steel box made to drop in the hole and then dropping my foot control in the box, to make a recessed foot control. Can anyone give me a reason why this wouldn't work. Other than I'm crazy for cutting holes in a new boat. The recessed control has to be so much easier on your back. Talk to me guys. Either talk me out of it or give me the strength to start cutting. P.S. I am very particular about my boat, so it would look professional when I get done. preach4bass
There is a company that makes a trolling motor recess. I think it sells for around 150 bucks, but if you have a new boat, you might consider it. If you're interested, I'll try to looked it up. Madhouse27
KBJ, just so you know, Cabelas actually sells a black metal recessed "foot". I'm actually going to get one for my Skeeter. You may want to check their site to get that actual dimensions to make sure it will fit your pedal correctly. In the picture there is a large Minn Kota pedal shown sitting down in it. I have this same Minn Kota and the pedal is pretty big. The Cabelas ad made it sound like it was a relatively easy install other than the pain involved in cutting a hole in the deck. If I remember correctly it was around $130. I thought it looked pretty cool and I suppose you could paint it if black wouldn't work with your interior. Since I am planning a similar project please let me know what you think of this one or if you find any other alternatives in your travels. cedar1
A buddy of mine has done this to his last three boats. The latest is a new 206 Champion. Our local boat dealer (how fishes FLW) can't seem to get the after market version of them even though they are made, so my buddydid as you mentioned, he has them made out of stainless. They're sweet! You just have to have the nads to cut a hole in your new $$$$ boat. The two he installed previously were in ProCrafts, but the latest like I said was a Champion. Just be carefull, draw a pattern, cut the carpet first and you should'nt have any problems.

ernel
I am having to get one due to having a bad back. A friend of mine has one in his boat and let me run the t/m on one of our trips. It made world of differece in how long I was abe to man the t/m without getting side tracked by my back hurting.
Super User cart7t Posted February 13, 2006 Super User Share Posted February 13, 2006 There are actually 2 or 3 companies out there making those recessed boxes. I plan to install one when I do my front deck insert. Just make sure the location is where you want it, measure twice, cut once.
kbj3579
Hey thanks guys. If I can get my hands on one already made, that's what I'm going to do. I will check out Cabelas and see what I think.
PeterF
I've been thinking of doing this to my boat project and the after market ones look deeper than what's on the Nitro's. I'm wondering whats going to work best.
