With my unused stuff

Recommended Posts

I have some fishing tackle that I do not use. And that I want to send to someone who can put it to good use. Actually I would like it to go to someone who can give it to someone in their youth. Who doesn't have much. And hopefully can love fishing as much as I do.

Various things , such as inline spinners , spinnerbaits , storm wild eye bluegill , pre rigged swim baits, some grubs , an some terminal tackle. And a couple of other things. If you think you can put it in a deserving youths hands. I would be glad to send it to you, and pay the shipping.

Understand that I am not going to send it to someone that I think is not suitable. And especially won't send it to someone just looking for some free stuff. That's not what it's about. I guess I could just go drop It off at Goodwill or something but I'd like to know it went somewhere and got some use from a child who is underprivileged. PM if you're the one

If you don't find a home for your stuff, I am on the WVU bass fishing team and we will be assisting in a kids fishing event in mid september, we could give the things away at that event.

Don't give it to Goodwill, they are a for-profit company and not really a charity like everyone thinks.  Their business model is they get free stuff and sell it for profit.

I think there is a fishing charity for kids that was mentioned on here before, I will see if I can find that thread.

Here it is, looks like they collect money to buy rods/reels for underprivileged kids, not sure about tackle though.  Organization is called Tackle the Storm.

i've done this several times on here before...  some feel like hits, some feel like misses...

i think the offer above from everything swims is about as good as you might find.  he's one heck of a young fisherman and i'm sure he'd find someone in need to pass the baits along to at their event.

I'm not looking to donate money, I have bills and mouths to feed of my own and can't afford it, just donating the lightly used tackle that I don't use. I will pay the shipping.

I'd think twice, and then again and again before giving away free stuff to kids.  It has been my experience that kids ( and grown ups to an extent) don't really respect stuff that is "free" and don't take care of it was well as stuff that they bought with their own money.  Call me cynical if you want to.

I'm in a similar position in that I have more gear than I need (not more than I want).   While I will very occasionally "loan" out fishing gear (with no expectations of ever getting it back)  most of the time I just store it in totes in my fishing shed.  When I'm not here any more my estate will have an auction and guys who are interested will get some interesting deals.

That's my current plan for dealing with extra stuff.

Yeah, I just thought maybe they'd take tackle donations directly too if you contacted them.

There are some programs you can donate gear to, a google search turned up a few.

http://fishingforlife.org/pages/reel-em-in

http://www.wish-a-fish.org/involved/default.html

A little research will tell you if they are legit or not. This seems like the best way to make sure your old gear gets maximum use and does a little extra good.
