Stradic Ci4+ FA vs. FB...

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have a side by side comparison of these two reels?  I have a NIB FA and was looking at whether to keep it or return it for an FB?  Is it worth it for the newer model?  What benefits am I getting over the FA vs. the FB and vice versa.  Thanks for any and all help!

FA was previous years model?

If so its supposed to be lighter, stiffer and smoother. If you can exchange it, why not? If you cannot, I wouldnt sweat it. I have two of the previous models (FA?) and they are great.

Stradic Ci4 FB Spinning Reels

The totally re-vamped Stradic CI4+FB is a significant improvement over the previous range. Weight has been reduced by 5 grams or more, while other operational features have been improved to further reduce the feel of weight. This model has been developed around Shimano’s G-Free Body, where the oscillating system and worm drive have been moved closer to the stem of the reel. This lowers the reel’s centre of gravity and makes it feel lighter in the hand. To enhance the feeling of lightness and feather touch rotation, the new CI4+FB model comes with the latest Magnumlite rotor. This new rotor design is like no other competing product. The design allows for better rotation stability and increased rigidity while still being lighter than the previous model. The next upgrade was the inclusion of Coreprotect. Coreprotect is a protective water-repellent coating placed in the roller clutch and the line roller to prevent water entering these key areas. Finally, this series comes with Hagane Gear. Shimano’s cold forged gears are smoother, stronger and more durable than any others on the market. This gives the reel a much smoother gear transition, but also plenty of pulling power.

No comparison.  There is nothing that the FB does not do better imho.  Lighter, stiffer, smoother.
