TLBassin
I am going to replace the motor on my boat and there is a local johnson machinic who has rebuilt a Johnson Faststrike 150. The motor is a 95. Ever thing under the hood has been replaced (from A to Z) with Johnson parts. Anyways, I was wanting to know if any of you had or knew anyone who had a Faststrike and whether or not it is a well designed and reliable motor. Thanks for the help! tunnelengineer
I have heard absolutely nothing but bad things about the Johnson Faststrike motors from the early/mid 90's. I haven't owned one, but most forums on line are scattered with bad stories about those motors.

ernel
(IMO) The faststrikes are probably the most dependable motor that Johnson ever made. The Fict motors were the ones that were crap. That is the motor that drove OMC over the edge into bankruptcy. My stock 150 is turning around 165 hp. I have been very pleased with it so far. Starts easily without smoking alot. Runs strong and runs pretty quick, for the boat size that I have. I was running 56 GPS on a 19ft Javelin with full t/x load for me and my partner. Hoping the jackplate I just put on will get me a little closer to 60. If you want to spend the extra cash on the motor, you can get it built and it will turn 205-210 hp. It runs about $1500 which is just a little too rich for my bank account right now. You can pick up 10-15 hp by just having the exhaust ported and adding carbon reeds. Runs close to $600 for the latter upgrade.
Super User cart7t Posted March 25, 2006 Super User Share Posted March 25, 2006 Yep, make sure it isn't a FICHT. Otherwise, they made pretty good motors.
Nick_Barr
Almost all Johnson Motors have bad raps, But the Faststrikes have the lowest rate of rebuilds, but even the rebuilt ones run with a heck of alot of power.
