Blazer tow vehicle ?

Featured Replies

I just got a '03 Blazer with V6 4.3L. I still didn't get a trailer and boat combo and when I do I'll likely use my Cherokee which already has all the wiring and hitch. However, I ran into some problems with the Cherokee and my wifes car totally went (head gasket). That is why I bought her the Blazer.

The Jeep Cherokee seems to be OK for now, but the recent problems got me a bit spooked and one of the reason I wanted the Blazer is just in case I have to go without my vehicle for awhile.

I know some of you guys have Blazers and I was wondering how they are for towing a smaller boat and trailer. I've been looking for a 14'-17' boat and trailer. Not a heavy one, just an aluminum V boat. The Blazer is just a standard 4x4 NOT a Z24. What kind of hitch works and do I have to do any wiring work?

Thanks, Bill

SHOULD WORK GREAT!

my stepdad has a 1997 Chevy Blazer 4.3L, not a 4 wheel drive or z24. and we tow around a 17 foot Fiberglass Fish/Ski all over the place without problems.

Minuteman,

I have a 1991 S10 Blazer with 4.3 liter with 4 wheel drive and 189,000 miles.

I use it to tow my 16' Cresliner with and have no problems with it what so ever.

I even tow this boat with the blazer 8 hours to Canada every year.

I just have a regular 2" square hitch on the back.

This is a great tow vehicle for my boat. I this the boat weighs 750lb the motor around 80 the trailer 250 and with all the other stuff I think it weighs 1500lbs total.

I have a 1999 GMC Jimmy 4x4 with the 4.3 which is the brother to the Blazer. I tow a Tracker Targa 17SC Deep V all loaded I'd say it weighs about 3000lbs - 3200lbs. Ran 7 hours from home to upstate NY in the dead of summer with no problems. Without checking my owners manual I think towing capacity is around 4400lbs. I do have a Class III hitch and 373 gears though.

Hope this helps.
