Trying to find snakehead in virginia

Featured Replies

I've caught snakehead before, but this will be my first time going specifically for them. I'm planning on going somewhere on the Potomac in VA and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place to put in, and i also wanted to see if anyone had an opinion on if i should go tidal, or farther up near dc?

Anything you guys can give me would be great.

They most likely have settled in for the long winter nap.

But come next summer ( June-Sept) look up Dave or me and we will show you how its done.

Zoom horny toads and spinnerbaits are good lures to use when fishing for snakeheads. There are days I catch +10 snakeheads in a few hours,so they aren't difficult to catch.

Seems like a lot of people catch them on red rattle traps when the water is cooler. I think Mattawoman creek is supposed to be good for snakehead.

I most definitely will. I've caught a few on accident before and they are great fun, so I was trying to go specifically for them. I'll wait till the summer if that's what I have to do.

This is where I ended up completely on accident. i put in at leesylvania and looked in a few spots I've been to before and saw nothing so I decided to scope out the Maryland side and went over there. there were grass mats everywhere, and more bass than you could count. some quite decently sized and we did really well for bass throwing rage toads. not a single snakehead though.
