Which map chip is right for me?

Featured Replies

Hello guys, I'm kinda confused right now. I just picked up a humminbird 898c si unit. I would like to purchase a map chip but don't have a clue on which one is right for me. I fish mainly Everglades canals, south Florida canals and okeechobee. I was looking into the chips but it seems that they only cover okeechobee. I just want some that will show me where I can go without getting into trouble and go out and it will tell me how to get back in(incase I don't remember). I have navionics on my phone and it does a great job but the water I fish they aren't detailed except okeechobee. Thanks for any input, all appreciated. Tight lines.

What would suit your needs is the Navionics Hotmaps Platinum South map card. Where there is no contour mapping, you would have satellite imagery overlay to use as a guide. Use the unit GPS Tracks as a guide to return to your launch point.

No mapping company is going to spend the time to survey canals. You may find that some have added sonar logs to the Sonar Charts program to have some contour mapping where no professional data has been collected.

What you see on the mobile app is what you would get with the Platinum card with Sonar Charts added.

Now wouldn't lake master do the same thing and save me $50. It has contour lines but won't show up at places I will be. I will just use the satellite overlay to see where to go and use the units gps to go and come back like you said.

Lakemaster Plus for the Southeast region may if it has the coverage you need.

Plus has the satellite overlay. Regular Lakemaster does not.  Same as the difference between Navionics Platinum and Premium/Navionics+.

Google Earth satellite pictures. Turn on Satellite overlay on your phone app under Chart Options

You can do the same thing with the Navionics Web App. Click Menu and choose Satellite.

When I was checking that, the main canal has contours with the Sonar Charts map layer.

If you don't want all the color clutter, turn on Terrain instead of Satellite, the canals are easier to see.

Thanks, I will be picking one up soon. Probably the lakemaster plus because $50 cheaper and I have heard good things about it. Thanks for all the help.

I went looking into lake master plus but for satilete overlay it's olny around the lakes, that won't work. Is navionics all around Florida or just around the bodies of water? Thanks

Look at the Navionics Web App and see what is covered.
