New setup and suggestions

Featured Replies

After lots of research to find the best all around rod for me I've finally come to a conclusion. I'm going to get a medium heavy fast action st. Croix legend xtreme. for the reel I'm going to get a metainium mgl 6.2:1 gear ratio. the only question I have about this reel is can I use it in saltwater? feel free to suggest any specs or other rods and reels.

Personally, I would not use the Metainium anywhere near salt water. I'm sure it's sealed good and you will rince it off good after every use, but water has a tendency to find it's way around.

The rod would be ok with a through rincing and wipe down with maybe a squirt of your favorite conditioner inside the guides after every use.

But that's just me.

I use the curado I series, e series and b series in the salt and have no issues. I have had them stripped down and greased to prevent corrosion. I also use the Calcutta d and b series which I prefer. All of these reels have held up well. Good luck on whatever you get.

Btw. The rod will be fine with a rinse down. But you CAN use a light duty saltwater rod for bass fishing as well.

Oh, I didn't realize. on the basspro site it says that the reel could be used for both fresh and saltwater.

Then I'm sure they're right..And no I don't own one, So I guess I'm not qualified to answer your question..Just one man's opinion..
