troll motor prop

Featured Replies

Do you need a special tool to get the prop off your trolling motor?  I took the plastic wing nut off, but the prop still won't come off?  I have a motorguide fx4000 43lb thrust.  There is about a 1/4inch gap between the prop and the head of the trolling motor that weeds always get stuck in.  I can see some weeds down inside there and want to take the prop off to clean them out.  Is it normal to have a gap like that?  Also, would the new hydrilla 3 blade prop work on my trolling motor?  Sick of constantly cleaning the weeds off of it.

I've got a Minn Kota not a motorguide. Mine has a slight gap as well which is a good thing.  There's usually a sheer pin on the shaft the the prop fits into.  It's often bent which causes the prop to bind on the shaft making it difficult to slide the prop off when you've removed the wing nut.  I took a couple of large flat blade screw drivers and put the blades into that gap on opposite sides of the prop and was able to pop the prop loose.
