by sheer numbers, I have noticed MG is more popular for fresh water but MK is more popular for salt water. Perhaps MG is generally cheaper so freshwater guys tend to buy them, but maybe the MG saltwater versions don't hold up as well so the saltwater guys buy the MK's? Idunno.

    I've heard the same regarding SW MK's vs MG's.  Don't bother buying a MG trolling motor for SW, it'll be nothing but headaches.  

    Or so I've read on several saltwater boards.  ;)

    I've owned all three of these brands at one time or another.I would rate a Minn-Kota as the best I've ever used with a Johnson/Evinrude a close second.
