zoom flukes and paddle tails

Featured Replies

hello, would anyone be able to tell me the weight of the zoom magnum 7inch flukes? also the weght of he zoom 5inch swimmin fluke?  Furthermore can anyone recommend a way to rig the zoom magnum 7inch fluke , what hook size and type . Im looking to fish the zoom magnum fluke deep, ive heard that it can be rigged weightless and will sink around 1/2 feet a second. can anyone help me out? any help appreciated! thankyou!

Ive rigged the magnum on a 5/0 screwlock hook, and that worked out just fine.     Never fished it deep, and never weighed the bait before, but I would guess it to be at or above 3/4oz by itself.

okay thankyou!  how about the 5inch flukes, if rigged on a weighted weedless hook will they still glide?

I usually rig the 7" magnum fluke on a 6/0 EWG Gamakatsu hook, I think it's a superline hook so it's heavier. That should give you a little extra weight if you're wanting to fish them a little deeper. I mostly use them shallow in the spring when the big females are moving up to spawn. If you used these hooks be careful tho. Sometimes there's a gap in the eyelet. I've learned the hard way that 30 lb braid will slip thru that gap & you can lose a fish. To remedy this, you can tie a thick knot of mono or fluoro line on the eye & cut both ends off. Then slide the knot over to fill that gap. I've heard of others using superglue or using both the knot & superglue.

I usually fish 5" super flukes with a weightless 5/0 EWG Gammy hook. But I've used a 1/16 or 1/8 oz weighted hook a few times to fish in deeper water. Seemed to work & still caught fish.
