Trolling motor for pontoon boat?

Featured Replies

I have another boating question for you guys.  We have one of those Bass Tracker pontoon boats.  I think its about 20' in length and I'm trying to find a way to fish off of it without blowing all over the lake.  Is there a trolling motor I can use or another method.  My brother mentioned that when he went to the Chesapeke Bay that the boat they were on used some type of float boards to keep from drifting.  Any help is appreciated.

jspike1,

Unfortunatley with a pontoon boat you have a lot of surface area for the wind to catch. You can use just about any bow mount motor on a pontoon. Just get the highest thrust you can afford. The pontoon boat I was on, last Saturday, had a wireless MinnKota on the front. You can also use drift sock but they will only slow your drift. I feel you should go with a trolling motor.

we use a 75 pound thrust minna kota and it works great on our boat. A 24 foot ponoon with a hard top.
