Live Well

Featured Replies

The live well on my buddy's boat doesn't appear to work.  We were discussing what we could do/rig up.  So far the ideas are a fish basket hung to the boat or getting some sort of basic aeration (sp?) pump.

Any suggestions?  We've never had to worry about this issue before.

I would assume you are in need of a live well for the weekend tournaments.

An aerated livewell or cooler is a MUST.  This is what I use, I have a 48qt cooler with a 500gph aerator pump. The pump sits on the bottom and I have the spraybar mounted to inside back as high as I could. Only used as much tube as I needed to keep the pump on the bottom. This has worked great for the past 3 years. Never had a fish die. On the real hot days I also use ice. I also wouldn't go any smaller than a 48qt. A 60 would be nice.

The fish basket idea.....BAD idea. I know from experience ;)

You're right about the weekend.  Gonna try Meadowsgrounds as you probably guessed.  My buddy really doesn't know if his live well works or not.  Nothing like waiting until the absolute last minute.  I thnk he was gonna get an aeorator and jimmy rig it in the live well.  Who knows.  Good luck.

I thought I saw a small rectangular battery operated airator (sp) for sale at Walmart. I think it was about 8 inches long and about 4 inches wide. I'm assuming you just turn it on and drop it in the livewell. You guys might be able to still use the livewell even if the pumps aren't operational. You may need to bring some kind of a jug to help fill it all the way. I know on mine when you pull the plug it only seems to fill it about half way then I use the sprayer to top it off. You may waste a little fishing time tending to the livewell and changing water but at least your fish would be ok.
