submerged batteries

Featured Replies

I just got a call from my buddy where I keep my boat.  I had 2 diehard batts charging on floor of jon boat and forgot to pull plug.  Batt.'s were submerged for 5-10 hrs in rainwater.  He pulled them out and pulled the plug.  Am I screwed for tomorrow morning? Could they be junk?  Caps were tight if that matters.  Had about 3 inches of water above them.

If your battery caps are, tight, like the ones one my batteries. I think you will be in good shape.

Don't forget water makes a great conductor of electricity, they maybe toast.

pretty sure they are fine  as long as waters not getting in to the battery should be ok

Well one of them has like 3/4 life left and that one's fine.

The other one was in need of replacing and is total toast now.  I'm replacing both.  Not taking chances with my fishing!

Thanks for the replies.

Thanks to Ben for PM.

Might want to get a box of Baking Soda and sprinkle around the boat, let sit for awhile then rinse out to neautralize any acid that might have leaked. Probally not a problem but better safe than sorry.
