I need a 12 volt for my new MK.  I am very concerned about leakage and spills so I want a sealed unit.  This will be for trolling motor only, no cranking.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

DURALAST Batteries have a extra plastic plate on the covering, to protect the battery. My Moms boyfriend has 3 and they are GREAT!!!!!!!!!

What batteries do most of y'all use for your trolling motors?  Do battery boxes do any good?

I've thought about the battery box, but have never got one.

Right now I have an Everlast (?) I got from Advance Auto. So far I think it's the best battery I have had. I had previously been using whatever Wal-Mart carries ... Auto Craft (?). If my new battery is fully charged and there is not a ton of wind, I could probably push sunrise to sunset and that's my only means of propulsion. I've also learned that battery maitence is key. Now every time I get off the water I put it on the charger. I guess it's pretty bad for a battery to sit not fully charged and I have noticed a great increase in the length of time I can stay out since I have been doing this.

I had a battery leakage issues in the back of my dad's brand new Trailblazer so I could see where it would be a concern. It completely ate through the trunk area all the way up to the driver's seat carpet. :-/

Optima makes a top notch sealed battery.  I used them exclusively for car audio,...word is that they have expanded to a T/M line but I promise,...it won't be cheap!

Battery boxes work great but routine maintenence goes a long way.  Routine rinsing with water and baking soda is highly reccommended.  

Optima batteries are very cool.  A enitrely new approach.  Problem is for marine they make a cranking type and dual mode cranking/TM.  I don't need any cranking capability so I think I will be better off with the exclusive TM type.

Check out Deka batteries. Sealed and very good batteries. Deka Marine Master I believe. Run about $90 for the larger size in this area.....Al
