How long should i charge this battery? is it safe to charge that model battery with that charger?

Most (if not all) battery chargers will automatically reduce the amperage as the battery becomes charged. Hook it to the battery, plug it in and look at the gauge. The higher the reading, the more juice the charger is sending to the battery. When the battery is charged the charger gauge will be on 0.

The 6 amp may work ok, but it may not be strong enough to get a good charge on the deep cycle battery. I've been told that a deep cycle needs 8-10 amps in order to get the electrons jumping enough for the battery to take a full charge (that's about the extent of my electrical knowledge). :) I use a similar charger but mine is a 10 amp.

I asked the my battery manufacturer how I should charge my deep cycle battery.  He said that a slow charge is always better.  I have a charger that will charge at 2 or 10 amps.  He recommended that I charge it for 3 hours at 10 amps to get the battery warm, and then reduce it to 2 amps overnight.  He said straight 2 amps would work, but take much lnoger.  These times are based on the curent state of charge of my battery at that time.  I have found that it does not take that long to charge it if I do so fter each outing.

I agree with Skwerl about the reducton in amperage on the gauge.  I think you should be fine at 6 amps, just allow plenty of charging time until you get a feel for it.

Dude, ya gotta resize these photos   500 is plenty

Fulltilt,i asked this question on riversmallies.com and had this comment,

get a new charger, although my battery is a agm,i went and bought a

new digital charger that has seperate readings for lead acid, gel,or agm

batteries and a charge rate of 2,8,12 amps, neat thing also on mine is that

it will tell you the percentage of charge and on car batteries if there is a drain

on the battery with nothing on. :)
