yet another jon boat question?

Featured Replies

Do any of y'all have a 1436 jon boat with a front deck on it?  How stable is it? does it make a good bass rig?  I am looking at a weld-craft 1436 all welded boat that already has the front deck welded in.  Looks like a good rig but dont know about how stable it would be. :-/  It has a 36" floor and a 59" beam with 18" deep sides.

fishnbear.  I had that exact same boat for many years except I think mine had a 48 inch bottom.  Weldcraft makes an AWESOME rig.  Stability is OK.  If stability is what you want you need to look into a 1448 instead of the 36 Wider = more stable.  You can certainly put a deck in the 1448 no problems!

Fishn bear,i looked at that identical boat along with a alumacraft and war eagle,

i bought the war eagle for the reviews i got and that it was camo.I have just recently found a deal that i'm looking into and you may see the war eagle on ebay! :)

I have a 1436 jon. It fishes great with 1 guy standing and one sitting. 2 guys standing is a different story. Wider would be better. I put a deck in mine, but I sunk it to keep my center of gravity low.

Triton_Mike, I looked at the same boat with a 48" bottom the other day.  No dout the wider bottom would be more stable.  The only thing is I already have a small 8hp motor that im wanting to use on the boat and i dont know if it would be enough motor to push that size boat?  Good to konw that someone has had the same boat and like it though. :)

Fishn Bear,

I'm no expert, but I fish a lot of lakes with 10hp limits, and I see many guys pushing boats much bigger than mine with no problems at all.

I used to use a 14 modified-v jon with a 6 merc in NARRAGANSETT BAY!!!

This was the beginningof our name which was originaklly "lowe" Budget Hookers. Hehe.

Many thought we were insane and at times we were but,.....an 8 on a 14 is fine. You won't be calling out the Gambler's and the Tritons but you'll get to your hole for sure.
