One winter project done

Featured Replies

I've been getting very frustrated, being unable to fish, and decided to do a fishing project to help ease my pain (and lighten my wallet).

My four favorite reels got upgrades. Fuego-bearings and drag washers  Sol#1 Swept handle and star drag   Sol#2&3 Swept carbon fiber handles with wood knobs and bearings (all Sols now have bearing and drag washer upgrades).

Now, If I can figure out how to add a pic

Great!  But Sounds like you'll be getting even more anxious for the season to start.

Nice! I use Tinypic to upload photos here. If you are still having trouble shoot me a PM and I will try to help.

How hard was it to to the Fuego?  I have bearings and drag washers sitting on the table ready to go, haven't dove in yet.  I have watched the videos, only thing that worries me is getting the pin (can't think of correct term) out without the special tool.

Don't try that! Get the spool pin tool!

Yea, you'll want a tool of some kind to take the pin out. I fabricated my own about ten years ago when I began cleaning my own reels. It's worth the investment in purchasing one if you plan on doing your own reel cleanings.  Bearing upgrades become an added plus. Drag washers are a simple swap, but make sure you make note of the way the stack is when you remove the old ones so that you install the new ones in the same order.

I am going to order the Boca tool I think.  Need to do a couple more reels, probably pay for itself first time I used it.  Just have to go slow and take lots of pictures the first few times.

Worst comes to worst, pour all the pieces I can find in a box and ship to Mike at DVT with an apology note right?    :)
