Shimano Metanium vs Dc

Featured Replies

Hey all I have been really trying to up my arsenal of rods and reels I have a few setups and have been trying to get myself one of the '08 style metanium D.C.'s but have been finding the 2013 metanium (non dc) for slightly cheaper online . What is everyone's input on one or the other?  Really like the idea of the DC reels but the 13 metanium is newer . Thanks for any input and still relatively new to this so if I didn't post some part of this correctly please let me know thanks all!

I don't recall too much (if any) discussion on this board about that earlier generation of the Met DC so that may be why you didn't get any responses. There have been lots of threads discussing the 2013 Met, the 2015 Met DC, and the 2016 Met MGL - but not much talk about that 2008-2014 Met DC.

Perhaps someone will eventually chime in...

Having owned both, and the new mgl's, I can say that almost without exception 08 met (DC or not)<13 met<16 met mgl.

The difference in performance is greatest between the 08 and the 13. The newer models are moderately smoother and significantly better casters, especially with lighter baits. The DC is more fun than function in the 08 met, and is probably only useful on windy days, if that. I love DC because it's cool, but that's really the only reason. I sold all but my Exsence DC.

If you can find a 13 met for a great price, I might go that way, but knowing what I know, I'd recommend an MGL. They're the cream of the crop.

I was also intrigued by the 08 DC but ended up with the MGL. Can't comment on the DC but it would have to be one hell of a reel to beat the MGL. Best reel I've ever used and it's not even close.
