Fury 703sf

Featured Replies

Asking for a friend, and since I've never used a Dobyn's spinning rod I've come to you guys. He wants a shakeyhead/wacky set up, paired with a Lew's TPro Spinning reel in 2000 size. My first recommendation was the 702sf, but I know Dobyn's tend to run heavy and I like a lighter rod. Anyone have experience with the 703sf specifically?

EDIT: just to avoid potential confusion, I am asking for info on the 703sf, not the 702sf (which I recommend).

I had the same question a little bit ago. I am getting a whole new rod arsenal. I contacted Dobyns directly and they gave recommendations for all the techniques I was looking for. I just specified what I was wanting to use the rod for and what weights I throw.

I asked which spinning rod would be good for shaky head and weight less plastics. Mr.Dobyns himself recommended the 703sf.

Remember with Dobyns they run a little lighter seems like so a medium is more like in between a Medium light and medium.

When in doubt just go to there website and contact them they will be happy to give you rod suggestions

I had this conversation with Richard about 3 weeks ago. He said the medium is more like a mag ml and to choose the power based on hook size. I use a lot of 1/16th - 1/4 oz jigs but they have a pretty stout 3/0 hook on them so he said the 703 would be better even for the 1/16th size because the added power would be useful for driving the hook home.

Most times when I fish a shakeyhead (rare for me) I use ones with a stout hook because I am throwing them in the same places I would a Texas rig or a jig so the 703 would be the clear choice here. However when I fish a wacky rig (more common) I use light wire drop shot type hooks so here I would likely go with the 702.
