Chronarch MGL vs Ci4

I know the MGL is just being released, but wondering if anyone has had a chance to try one and wonder if upgrading is worth it.

I realize this post may be premature

Al

Well I have 3 of the CI4s currently, and I have an MGL on the way. But all of mine have been cleaned, lubed properly and tuned. Happy to share my thoughts once I get the new one. But won't be an out of the box stock comparison.

Look forward to your report.  Been really thinking about the MGL has my first "nice" reel.

I ask because I have. 2 ci4's that have never been used that I can return replace them with the MGL for slightly less money

I was just going to refer this thread. Thanks for doing this.

I used both my new MGL's on Saturday afternoon. I'm going to post an update later today or tomorrow whenever I get around to it.

Thanks looking forward to your review. I read something on another forum that the brakes were seemingly finicky to adjust like on the Scorpion 70s and seem to require max braking to control the spool. That would be disappointing as on my CI4s I feel the brakes are very adjustable and the spool is well controlled without sacrificing accuracy or distance.

I read the same, which is the reason I asked...

I'll say this about mine... I threw a 1/4oz jig and trailer on my 151HG (15# Pline Tactical FC), and I threw a mix of a Baby 1-, Husky Jerk 08, 1/4oz. rat-l-trap, and a 1/4oz. Keitech 3.8" SIF on my 151 (13# Sunline Defier mono). I did not adjust the internal brakes at all from stock, and I only adjusted the external dial. The wind was blowing 20+mph  the entire time, and the only bait I had any backlash issues on was the #08 Husky Jerk whenever I didn't throw it with the wind.

Could it have handled the #08 HJ if I had messed with the internal brakes? Hard to say, but most likely yes. I don't generally throw 1/4oz jerkbaits in a 20mph wind in chocolate milk colored water whenever it's 38* outside, but I wanted to test out the reel so that's the results I got.

That's promising and likely lower weights then I'd be trying to throw. From what I've read on the Curado:Scorp 70s they ship with all 4 brake shoes engaged. If that's the case I'd assume this one is the same.

Hoping my 151HG is going to ride my Tour Versatile with 40-50lb braid.
