Trolling Motor

Featured Replies

I'm looking at upgrading my old Minnkota tm to a powerdrive 40.   Anyone have any opinions on the power drive series?

We've talked about these in about 2 different threads.  Most of the guys that own or have owned them either don't like them or would never own one again.  I happened to own one for around 7 years.

The pluses:

Nice variety of removable TM mounts available.

Flat foot pedal negates the need for mounting a PRoTray type recessed foot pedal assembly.

The long control cable allows you to control the boat just about anywhere in the boat.

Now the minuses:

The turning speed of the motor is way too slow.  If you need to make emergency 180 degree turns to stay off rocks, avoid docks or overhangs this motor isn't the one you need unless you reach down and manually grab the motor and turn it.  If you fish open water most of the time it's no big deal but for most other fishermen, the Power Drive just doesn't cut it for this reason.

Thanks for the reply.  I saw your earlier post but was hoping that they had improved the design in recent years.

i own the powerdrive 40 and it works fine for me...there is a delay between the foot pedal and the unit...probably about 1 second and it turns slower but it works good
