Which depthfinder should i get either the bottomlinetournament 480 max, or pinpoint 7820. I can get them both at cabelas for the same price.

I don't think it will matter much.  Until you get into the big dollar graphs, they are all basically, depth, contour and temp monitors.

I smoked 16 years a while back so my sense of smell isn't as good as a friend who can smell fish, especially if there's a school of shad near, before seeing signs of them. He can spot a place holding resident bass, knowing it's there. He's got me finally sniffing out active spawn areas, the milt and eggs tainting the water, especially eggs when exposed by a dropping water level.
