Berkely Beast

Featured Replies

Just texas rig it.  I peg my weights.  I use 1/8 or 3/16 most of the time.  You can also throw these weightless and can skip them a mile.  They also work across weed mats or lily pads weightless.

This is the best creature/beaver style bait in my opinion.  I usually fish this bait texas rigged with either a 1/8, or 1/4 oz tru tungsten bullet weight.  I let it glide to the bottom, and then I fish it like I would a jig.  I will drag it on the bottom like a crawfish, and I will also hop it up off the bottom and let it glide back down.  These can also be used as a jig trailer.  If you buy the smaller 3" I've heard they are pretty good used on a shakey head presentation.

I was looking at the Beast in the store the other day, and while it resembles a beaver bait, I wonder if it can be fished a different way.  I want to try to weigh down one side so that when it sinks if sinks sideways.  When you look at it sideways its profile looks just like a sunfish.  I bet if you could get it rigged just so, it would do pretty well.

One of my favorite baits lately I rig mine weightless texas style on a light wire hook nice and deadly fall really slow.

I had decent luck with the Berkely Beast last weekend on a split shot setup in about 15 foot of water-would have tried them on C-rig but did not have that rig with me. Have had luck with them weightless before as well. I like them a little better than the Sweat Beaver...seems like they hold on a bit longer.
