Featured Replies

Again sorry for another boat value question but i am in the market and i respect your guys opinion way more than the nada guides or blue book values, so here is what i am looking at, 1999 skeeter sx186, dual console, 150HP mercury xr6, balanced and blueprinted tempest plus 24pitch ss prop, 55lb motorguide 24v trolling motor, eagle 320 at console, and at the bow, lowrance gps h20 unit, hot foot throttle, trim button on steering column, recessed trolling motor pedal, loc-r bar setup, 6" jackplate, the boat is in great condition, has one scratch on drivers side about 2 foot long, trailer is perfect and it runs and drives great how much is a good buying price???

This one?

Nice boat.  I'd say he's right in the ballpark with that $9500 asking price.

By the way Cart, what things have you personally heard about Skeeters?  I will be in the market for about that same boat in a few weeks.  Right now I'm leaning towards Skeeters and Stratos'.  Any good articles or other web sites to check for more info?

Skeeter makes a fine boat but all of your major brand bass boats are well made these days.  The biggest differences come in ride, fishability and interior layout. That is more of a design concept of the individual boat company.  Nothing you can read will really tell you what you need to know, you need to get on the water in several different boats and decide for yourself.

Here's a couple examples of just 2 boats

The new Ranger ZX series is a pretty new hull for them. Many of the guys who own them can't get enough but many of them are complaining the the boat is still too slow considering the money spent and apparently the new compartment latching system is weird and not very good.

The latest Champion models are getting rave reviews, mostly because of the tremendous legroom under the dash and improved larger rear storage area.  Champion has had a problem in the past with pretty weak, rear storage box size. Pathetic really considering the size of the boats.

The finished product of both of these boats is a result of a design teams decisions on priorities of how their final product should ride and fish. All boats brands have their own nuances, it's up to you to decide what's most important to you.  Reading reviews of boats is relatively meaningless since the opinions of the reviewer are directly related to what he or she thinks.  What may be important to them may be meaningless to you and vice-versa.

Thanks Cart!  We(and I) appreciate you giving such a thorough answer on such a wide subject.  I agree it's basically up to the individual who will be operating the boat.  For people like myself who don't own a bass boat yet,  it's great to get as much feedback as possible from a boat owner.  Time on the water is a plus and being a co-angler definitley helps.  Co-angling is a great way to not only learn the water your fishing, but experience the pro's and con's of diffferent bass boat manufacturer's while your on the water.  Can't wait to be an owner!

Cart's right about every manufacturer having its own take on layout and design. While I'm certainly a big fan of Skeeter boats I'd definately take your time and look at alot of different brands and models. We've all got our own priorities about storage and layout as well as individual tastes about looks and style. Shop around, learn and decide what you like.
