I wanna buy a battery charger for the battery I use for my trolling motor. What are some things I need to look for when purchasing a charger? Whats the best all around specifications for a charger?

Schumacher SpeedCharge smartcharger.  2/8/12, settings for regular, deep cycle, and AGM.  Automatically shuts off when battery is charged and will maintain that charge when necessary.

I use the the Schmacher ship n shore 10/6/2 because it follows the recommendations from by battery company (trojan group 27 agm)

It is small, light, and gives both voltage and percentage of charge.  It's pretty quick too.

Burley,i took back that exact charger to walmart yesterday,it was 44.95.

I used my trolling motor from 8 am til 5 pm,put the charger on it two days

later,i have a agm battery,hooked it up set it to agm setting,the charger came

on and automatically shut right off and said the battery was 100% chargered!

Now people you know if i used that trolling motor for 9 hours off and on

with the trolling motor and also have my depth finder running all day it

would have drained that battery some...So the charger went back to the

store.In search of a new one now...  

i had bad luck with my first shumacher charger it was the 6/2 amp cheapy for 25 bucks. i just brought it back and got the 12/8/2 amp one for 45 bucks and it works great tests the battery for me and chagrges it 100% then shuts off. my battery has been acting funny lately and i got 8 hours out of my 4 year old battery once it got a good charge. i like it i plan on useing it for many years
