Phenix elixir

Featured Replies

Does anyone have experience with the Phenix elixir rods? They look great on the web but no one down here has them in shop. How do they compare to the Fenwick river runner?
I'm looking for a 6'6 to 7' UL/F for jigs and hardbaits up to 1/8 or 3/16.

The Elixir is an awesome freaking rod with some backbone to it and arguably the best trout rod in Phenix' lineup (the Mirage is a total noodle; the Dragonfly looks and feels really nice but a tad noodley at the tip and a one piece that long is hard for me to transport around; I've never handled an Iron Feather before).  I have an Elixir Telescoping 8' FX802-1X that I use for bass fishing (for dropshotting), and some guys in SoCal use that rod for the surf.  Have caught a ton of fish on it including my PB 8.25lb largemouth, and have never had an issue with getting a good hookset in (but I only use thinner hooks like size 1-6 Owner Mosquito and Gamakatsu DS/SS).  Also have an FX801-2 that I use for trout fishing.  I use the FX801-2 to throw mainly spinners and small kastmasters, and have used it to throw some mini jigs as well (though I don't really have any confidence in mini jigs so only a handful of times).  I'll PM the name of a buddy of mine who's a Phenix rep if you have any specific questions you want to ask about what the right model would be for what you want to do.

It's still going strong though I've been using it less because I've been favoring my Phenix M1 (I'm a shore guy who hates carrying multiple rods and I can throw crankbaits and topwater on the M1).  Dang, now I might have to break it out this week.
