Smith Mountain Lake Help

Featured Replies

Hello all, I am new here but any help that could be given to me would be greatly appreciated.  I am a James River local and have a tournament next weekend on Smith Mountain out of Parkway Marina.  I went to the lake on Friday and it was not easy.  It was beautiful, but i tried fishing some long points and nothing was going on so I switched to what i know best, skipping and flipping docks and shallow wood.  We could not find a pattern to save our lives.  If anyone has any pointers or locations to catch them I could really use it.  And I am no opposed to making decent run.  Thank you for your time and help!

SML is way too big to give you any specific location.

You seem to have the lake under control. They just did not bite for you.

We would need the water temperature as the dogwoods have bloomed two weeks ago so the bass are still on their beds, coming and going based on the water temperatures.

Everything can work on SML from flipping/pitching to Carolina rig.

Check the water temperature and that is your first clue.

Please use #2 post to introduce yourself. And Blake, please add your personal data to your avatar so the guys can give you better detailed assistance.

Good luck.

Thank you, I will get on the introducing myself.  The water temp was 66-68 everywhere I went.  I am worried that with all of the rain the fish will pull off the beds.  If there is any tips as to color or anything you can give me I would really appreciate it.  Thanks!

I fished SML with a buddy in a tournament a couple of years ago...as others have said that lake is huge so a particular area Im no help on...plus we were in his boat and I wasn't really paying much attention.....anyway it was about this time of the year when we fished it and we had cold mornings (30's) and it warmed up to 70's.... fished it for two days and all fish came off of shaky head under docks.

Good luck
