Depth Finder for Small Boat

Featured Replies

I have a small 9 foot bass hunter boat that I use on ponds and my improvement goal for this winter is to find a depth finder to put on the boat.  I need something that has its own battery or I will have to hook it up to the TM battery.  I also do not need anything to fancy as the majority of waters that I fish are less than 20 feet but I am just looking to get some sort of contour knowledge for fishing purposes.  I do not intend to use it as a fish finder, just want a decent unit to give me some more knowledge of the ponds I fish.  Thanks in advance.

I fish electric only lakes in my area, and I use the cheapest Eagle depthfinder made. I think I paid $69 for it at the local BPS. It has all I need - depth, water temperature, and the ability to pick up brushpiles, dropoffs, humps, etc.

I have no plans to upgrade any time soon.

Also, I run it off the same battery as a trolling motor, and have no problems with interference or shortened battery life.

good luck,

adam

I use the Eagle Fishmark 320.  Very good picture, and has everything you're looking for plus some.  $150 at most places.

Check out the Tournament 480, made by BottomLine.  It has 480*480 resolution and provides depth, water temperature, battery voltage, and other stuff.  I bought mine at BPS for $99.99 about a month ago.  I use it on my 11' inflatable and run it off my TM battery.  BTW it shows structure very well.

Don't spend a lot of money on one.  Fishing shallow water, about the only usefull info you will get is the deth and occassional stump/tree top and creek bed.  Don't need super high resolution or much in the way of bells and wistles for a pond boat.   I've got a number of very good LCD's, a new x87 and two x75's that have been sitting on a shelf behind me for almost a year and I still use my 30 year old 30' flasher in my pond jon, and have no plans to change it.
