Motorguide X3 and VRS?

Featured Replies

After over 25 years of use our Motorguide Three 25 lb thrust bow trolling motor is dead. We are nearly decided on a new Motorguide X3 45 lb thrust to replace it. For how we have to mount it on our boat the head will likely not be able to be pointed straight ahead and be turned in he mount so the front of the head (non cable side)is pointing to about 10 o'clock.

For or anyone with experience with the X3 or X5 with VRS will this work? Or wil the steering ratio changes of VRS affect the feel of our steering adversely having the head turned this way?  Or is VRS just marketing gimmick and really have no effect?

Any other feedback on the X3 would be welcome as well. We are so trained to the Motorguide foot pedal that we are just trying to stay with what we know.

Thanks all!

I just put a MG 55# thrust X3 it will work fine at the ten o'clock position .I didn't like the cable being out side the boat so I change it to the four o'clock position but it works good any way you put it.

Thats actually how ours will be installed, the cable coming off the head will be in about the 4 o'clock position. Thanks for the feedback!  I'd like to go with the 55 but we are concerned about battery runtime with the higher power motor.

I up graded my battery to a 31group V MAX TANK So I don't worry about run time.
