Im on the fence of what to buy.  Is the tatula sv worth the extra 70 dollars

Speaking from a first time Daiwa owner and going straight to the Tatula SV, I have only managed two backlashes both due to human error. That being said, before buying one or the another get a handle on both and see what you think in your hands. Today I managed to skip my swimbait on my first few tries, tightened down the controls and no backlash, it's been a lot of fun to use and practical. 

I've wondered this myself.  I do know full well that the Type R will do everything I'd ask of it.  I don't skip with a baitcaster but that is something the SV is supposed to be good at.  IF the Tatula SV was a free floater then I'd for sure go with that one, but I don't think it is.

Here are two thoughts:

The Tatula SV does not have a free floating spool. I don't know how much difference that makes but all other Daiwa SV reels are free floating as far as I know.

 

My Tatula CT is a great reel for half the cost of a Tatula SV

 

 

 

The Tatula SV is well worth the cost over the type R, I can't believe how well it casts not having the free floating spool

the SV spool alone is worth more than $70

Let me say this, the Tatula SV is the longest casting Daiwa I've ever owned. That includes tuned Z's, Zillions and several other SV's. I've only had it a month so I'm still putting it through its paces but I'm in awe of its casting so far

Have you tried it with light lures? I just bought one, but haven't used it much. I was trying to get it dialed in.

I have the standard CT and cast 1/8oz spinners all the time.

The SV should atleast match that and I would guess cast even lighter if your rod is rated for it.
