On the top face of each head, just above numbers 1 and 2 sparkplug, there is a cover held on by four bolts, the T-Stats are under each of those covers. There is also a popet valve and spring under each of those covers. Also note, the rubber seal is split and covers the edge so it wraps around the edge of the flange so there is rubber on top and bottom of the flange. I see a lot of them where people don't realize this and try to just put it under it. You will need new gaskets, T-Stats and seals. Might want to check yours by heating them up in water with a candy thermometer, if I remember right they should start to open at about 120 - 130 degrees and fully open by 160, then again it may have been 110 and fully open by 130, been a long time. Those things are rather expensive for a little T-Stat.

As far as I know, there are no thermostats in the motor at this time. He took me fishing the other day and when he fired up the motor, the water starting flowing out in a matter of about 15 - 30 seconds, on the first start of the day. Thermostat kits got here yesterday, so I hope to have it done by this evening.

Water will always come out of the P hole, with or without T-Stats.  A controlled amount of water is bypassing them. this is to keep air pockets from developing inside the motor.  If you get an air pocket, that lets a hot spot develope, this wll make any water that touch it turn to steam and the steam can actually push the rest of the water out of the motor, causing a serious over heat problem.

That is also why it so important to maintant at least the minimum water pressure.  Water boils/turns to stream at a much higher temperature pressure.  Just like running a pressure cap on your radiator, let it go bad and you can have problems with the motor boiling over.

Yeah, it comes out of the pee hole immediately. The water started flowing out of the outlet holes on the back of the motor within 15 seconds or so even on the first crank of the day. I'm installing a temp gauge and a warning buzzer on the motor. Any ideas what color wires? I think the purple and purple//white wires are for the buzzer, and the brown wires for the temp gauge? Thanks.
