Squeaky Trailer

Featured Replies

Does it drive anyone else crazy to have a squeaky trailer? Does anyone throw lubricant on the leaf springs to knock the noise down?

What else does eveyone do for trailer maintenance other than the normal on brakes, greasing bearings, etc.

Yep!  Hate things that squeak.  I do oil the springs on the trailer.  I go so far as to jack up the frame of the trailer, leaving wheel on ground, so that the leafs will open up more and then spray them.  My boat/motor only weight around 1400 pounds so no problem on trailer frame stress.  Heavier boats might be a problem; I'll let others answer that one.  I also put a little kerosene in the oil to thin it out and make it penetrate better.  There is not a spot on those springs that don't get oiled.  lol  I also oil all other movable contact points that Do Not Have Electrical hardware close.  Let this sit and then wipe down to get access off.  Makes for a much quieter pull.

I cant stand anything that makes an 'unnatural' noise on a vehicle. Its drives my wifes nuts that she will be talking and then all of suddent the radio is of, shes being told 'hush, hush, wait, what is that sound' and I stare out into the cab with deep intent trying to figure out where the foreign sound is coming from....then I throw her empty water bottle onto the floor (you know the one that rattles in the cup holder).

Ill be oiling the trailer in the morning.....

Jeez, I can't wait to tell my wife that I'm not the only one that does that. Last time she picked me up when I dropped my Jeep off for inspection, I heard so many noises in the Blazer she drives, I kept it home for 3 days to figure out where all the noises where coming from. The final noise was fixed with a new wheel hub and bearing. Now I know why all the speakers are shredded in every car she drives.

Thats my wife too....If the muffler went out I think she would get bigger speakers.
