Daiwa Rod Question

Featured Replies

I am seriously considering a Daiwa spinning rod but I have no clue about the levels of the blank materials. What would the difference be in HVF (Cronos) and SVF (Tatula Elite)? Looking at the 7' ML spinning rod from both lines.

Also would the Zillion be a really noticeable upgrade over both of the above listed rods?

One last thing it isn't against some secret law to put a Shimano reel on a Daiwa rod is it? Just want to make sure some strange magnetic field isn't going to prevent me from putting my Stradic FK on a Daiwa rod.

Honestly from what I've seen in the Cronos n Tatula Elite rods personally the Tatulas are better. Better blank, good sensitivity, and just a good deal for the price. Now with that said, I own a ML Cronos rod as a spinning setup, love the Cronos-great tip, good sensitivity, and a comfortable handle. Can't go wrong with either, however personal preference I would pick the Tatula Elite rod.

Agree, the Elite is probably the better rod. Rumor is that it's a Steez blank (heard that from local shop owner)

Cronos is a really nice rod, sort of an upgraded Standard Tatula which are also nice rods

I have a cronos mh/f spinning rod and love it. Don't have the newer Tatulas but used plenty of the originals. I have zillions and steez rods. The cronos is every bit as good as the zillion. Plus that stradic fk will look killer on the cronos. Plus you can find the cronos for around $130

The new tatula elite is an awesome rod. I have the 7' ML which i use for dropshots with 1/4 and 3/8oz weights, usually a wacky senko or roboworm as the bait of choice. Good tip for working the bait, great sensitivity, very light weight and comfortable. I was thinking of the cronos last season, glad i waited though as these new tatula elites fish well above their price point IMO.

My understanding is:

The Cronos are HVF blanks

The OG Tat is SVF.

The Zillion and the OG Tat have the same blanks.

The Tat Elite is SVF graphite, etc with a different resin.

Regular tatulas are available for $100ish all over, they are awesome at that price.

Thanks for the input guys. I am only in the market for a rod right now because the one I got last doesn't balance all that well with my Stradic so I am going to get a slightly heavier reel for it and try to balance the Stradic onto a ML rod. Hopefully any of these rods will be slightly more butt heavy than my Dobyns Sierra was.

Would any of you be able to compare the Daiwa rods to the Dobyns so far as sensitivity goes?

My Tatulas are close to a Champ, better than any Sierra or Savy, blows the Fury out of the water.  (I have 2 Dobyns Pro_staffer buddies, I have owned and fished a ton of their rods.)  What size Stratic do you have?
