Looking at a couple new to me boats

Featured Replies

Hey guys, so I finally decided to move from my Jon to a glass boat. I have been looking at a couple for sale

near me, and would like some/any input. The boats in question are a 1997 Nitro 640lx, a 1994 Cajun 160, and a 1992 Bass Cat Margay. The Nitro and the Cajun are in great shape, the Bass Cat could use new upholstery on the seats and some new carpet. The nitro has a 75hp merc, the Cajun an evinrude 88spl, and the Bass Cat has a 115 merc which looks newer. I'm trying to stay in the 16.5-17 ft range since I never fish anything over 1500 acres, and also storage space is tight. Anything in particular I should look for in any of these boats besides the usual? Any reason one is better than the other?

Bass cat has awesome customer service from what I hear. Try calling them and get a feel if they still have replacement parts for your boat. I'm not saying they'll warranty it, I'm just talking about them giving you actual parts that fit and were made for the boat. Most Mercury motors are good also. Have someone or yourself do a compression test on the motor.

Is there a reason you want to stay in that size boat.  Often times you will get a better laid out  and performing boat in aluminum within that size range.

What is your budget.
