I was wondering if anyone who has a NRX has tried the new GLX. If so, how close is it to the NRX?

Close as in feel alone? IMO it is close and there may be some models in the GLX line up that outshine rods in the NRX line. My only "new" GLX experience is the MBR 844. It is a great rod for bottom contact and spinnerbaits/chatterbaits.

 

Other selling points for the new GLX rods over the NRX rods would be no recoil guides for the guys that don't like them plus a few options for full handles vs split grip. The balance seems to be quite good and reel seats are quite comfortable as well. I have no complaints about my new GLX nor do I wish I would have selected another NRX rod

 

Are you looking at any particular models in each respective line of rods?

Yes, my current NRX is an 853 JWR that I use for jig fishing and other bottom contact baits. Sensitivity is my primary concern. I have read that the actions on the new GLX's are a little softer, so I might need to go up one. What do you think? My Metanium isn't as smooth as it should be and the NRX magnifies that compared to other rods (either due to increased sensitivity or the recoil guides). I just don't want to give up too much in the sensitivity department.

I've heard the opposite is true and the glx rods have a touch more power. I've read several reviews and comparisons and everything I've seen says that the nrx mbr rods are about 1/2 power softer than the same model glx. For example the nrx 843 mbr is a tually in between the glx 842 and 843

If the metanium is not up to your expectations ,wouldn't it make more sense to get a new reel?

I don't really get the logic behind, "my reel is broken, so I'll fix it by getting a new rod".

I may get another reel, but there are some things (like better balance and lack of recoil guides) that I like better about the GLX. That was the reasoning behind my question.
