Thoughts on Humminbirds?

Featured Replies

Wht do you guys think about Humminbirds?  What I have had of them I have liked, but I havent had any experience with the newer models.  It seems like everything I hear about them now is not that good.  Have they just gone down hill or just lagging that far behind?  So again whats your thoughts and opinion on them?

I don't know who is telling That, but their new units are great.

I have a Matrix 87c (2005 model)

and a 787c (2006 model)

Both are Sonar/GPS combo's

both are great units and have had no problems

I have several friends that run newer humminbirds from the side imaging ones down to the  Piranha line, and have no problems.

If you do go with one I highly suggest a color unit.

It all comes down to personal preference. I myself prefer Eagle, I think their graphics are better. I had bought a Humm, 565 and was very disapointed. I now own only Eagle.

I now have a h'bird 737 and 767 and am happy with both of them.  My only regret is not putting that money towards the 987 si.  Prior to my h'bird units I had three Eagle units and was always disappointed with them.  I can't remember what model they were (420's I think).  They would just go haywire every so often and I would have to shut them off and restart them.

The 737 and 767 I now have are easy to use (after educating yourself) and easy to read.  The gps functions are easy to use as well.  One thing I might suggest is to go shop them at BPS or Cabelas and get some hands on with them before you purchase.

Good luck

i have all lowrance x135 and lms480 and i love the i had a humminbird on my boat a year or so a go and it did not like it that much, go with lowrance

I have a 737 and like it--although I do not have any experience with other manufacturer's products. Prior to the 737 I had a Humminbird Wide Optic, which I still have and intend on mounting as the bow unit.
