Featured Replies

ok im trying to find a bass boat probably a tracker. i came across a 1991 tracker tx17. got a 9.9hp evinrude.yes i know its a small motor but in NJ most lakes are 10hp limited anyway so this doesn't bother me. still got the original trailer. it has some rust but dont seem like it wouldn't last for a while longer. everything seems to work except the speedo and aireator. motor ran good when i seen it. id still need to do a compression check and stuff before i bought it, but in the case its all fine does this sound good for $2200.  has bearing buddy's also. the carpets all seem pretty good still. the floors seem for the most part solid but they do show there age. some spots on the side in the back have a little flex but nuttin crazy.

Ask around some of the dealers and check NADA.com (just use that as a guide, not as the bible) and see what a 91 Tracker TX-17 is worth without the motor and add $300 - $350 for the motor.  With that small of a motor, it's hard to say what the whole rig would be worth so I would figure it without the motor.  That way, if you took a notion to sell it again and they wanted a bigger motor, you keep your 9.9 or sell it seperate and still get a fair price for the boat and trailer.

Usaully when you see complete rigs priced, as with NADA, they are with a much bigger motor, so you will have to be very careful doing your deal.

Honestly, unless they will lower the price I would pass on that. I think the price is high considering the trailer is rusty and it has such a small outboard.

I paid $2500 for my 87 TX-17 with a rebuilt Mercury Classic 50hp and a trailer with ZERO rust. The boat came with a Motorguide trolling motor that was in good shape as well as all the safety stuff, vests, rope anchor, flares, two fire extinguishers, etc.

The boat in is great shape considering it's age, it only needed the carpet replaced, some very minor wiring work(mainly the terminals at the batteries) and some cleanup.

And this is considering the fact that I'm on the coast where boats are in high demand and usually bring a premium.

I think $2200 sounds right. I am also from an area here in Pa where there are many limited lakes. I know around me the smaller boats seem to hold the prices better. Yes you can pick up a boat with a bigger motor for about the same price, but in an area that this kind of boat is in demandand  the prices stay up. I know there are many boats like this going for more $$ that $2200 around here. By buddy just sold a 1994 17'Lowe (like a tracker) with a 9.9hp merc for $3500.

get the motor checked out. Check out the rust on the trailer. If its just surface rust. a little sanding and some paint and its as good as new. Now if its rusted bad then stay away.

If the motor is good (those old 9.9 run a long time)

the trailer only needs some TLC

and the boat is soild and need some TLC

the fact is that you don't need a bigger motor, If you had one you couldn't use it.

$2200 sounds good to me. But deal maybe you can get it lower.

You do bring up a good point about the particular type of boat and the area causing a demand for that particular boat, that very well could be a fair price.

I'm not in that situation so I wouldn't know, here every boat seems to command a premium.

My advice would be to check around to see what these types of boats are bringing. If that seems like a fair price and the boat/trailer is in good shape then it may very well be a good deal.

I have a 9.9 HP 2 Stroke mounted next to my 50HP Merc on my'89 TX-17 because of the same restrictions. You might be surprised how well the 9.9 pushes one of them Trackers. I was. The previous owner paid about $2500(incl new engine) just to have that setup added so he could use it in restricted lakes and it was perfect for the area I live (E. PA)

That's a sweet setup.

If you don't mind me asking, how do you like that Merc Classic 50? Had any problems out of it??
