small bass craft rod holders

Featured Replies

After Losing an expensive fishing outfit one night.  I'm looking for a better way to organize my rods.

I have seem some ingenious creations on these boards but they all show the rods being stowed in a vertical (stand up) position.

I need a secure method of stowing my rods in my canoe but in a horizontal (lay down) position.

Any ideas?

commercial or homemade makes no never mind to me.

thanks

Is there some reason you couldn't store them vertically?  I see people with vertical holders with 3 or 4 rods on kayaks, so that's why I ask.  Also, how big a canoe?  How many rods?  Do you fish alone?  I've never been in a canoe, but it seems the people I see alone are generally in the back.

If that's the case, you could get some 3/4" aluminum square tube and some thin 3/4" aluminum angle.  Just cut the square at a width that will span the width from gunnel to gunnel.  Attach a small piece of the angle to the tubing with 1/2" self tapping screws and bend the tab that sticks up so it's close to the shape of the canoe, and poke a hole in both.  Once you've attached the other side, do another for the front and you can use a commercially available rod holder by attaching it to the square tube.  If the angle is too severe, you could use flat aluminum and bend it to suit what you need.

Have you thought about having the rod holders angled away from you similar to the saltwater outrigger setups used on offshore boats?

im thinkin bungee straps...or maybe like velcro straps that are actually attached to the rod, but you can release the strap when using, then put it back on when your done with the rod. just a possibility

Hey guys,

these are really great ideas.

I was afraid of the vertical setup, because I figure one overhead cast and there goes another outfit.

I think the ideas are really creative.

Please keep em coming

I can see bungee or velcro or sombe combo or something similar.

Were thisssssssssssssssssssssssssss close. thanks

Look at the rod holders that "Texas Bass Pro"'s boat has on it. Maybe something like this would work? I am not sure what you're working with as far as a place to mount something. Maybe you could post up a pic or two...just a thought. Anyway, here's two ideas I had.  Good luck.

avaliable at Bass Pro for $9.99 each. Then you will be guranteed never to lose another setup.

I really like what texas basspro did.  I could put two on each side of me, then use a little pvc tube in the front to hold the tip.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Good stuff here guys.

PLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEze keep the ideas coming.

PS.  I'm not sure what I'm seeing in the bottom pic.

thanks again.

That little bungee idea keeps echoing in my head.  It's how you stow your rods on bass boat when your the non boater.  Gotta be a solution there.

Sorry avid, I should have said what it is.  Its a piece that you fit over your rod and it will keep your rod-reel floating if it goes overboard. I re-read your first post and saw you have a canoe, I'm sorry I missed that.

Hey Avid, I've been ciphering on your predicament for a bit, but I'm kinda vague on what your canoe looks like.  Would it be possible for you to post left and right side (that would be port and starboard for you nautical types) pictures of your boat?  Also, please advise if the drilling of any holes in the above-water structure of the boat is permitted.
