JON BOAT:  Electric Only Top Speeds ?

FORUMULA FOR OPTIMUM BOAT SPEED WITHOUT GOING ON PLANE:

HSPD = SQ ROOT [ LVL ] * 1.34

HSPD = is maximum hull speed in knots

LVL = is the hull length in feet at waterline

ESTIMATED TOP SPEEDS:

- 12 FT BOAT: 4.44 KNOTS = 5.11 MPH

- 14 FT BOAT: 4.83 KNOTS = 5.56 MPH

- 16 FT BOAT: 5.19 KNOTS = 5.97 MPH

- 18 FT BOAT: 5.52 KNOTS = 6.36 MPH

BOAT:

- 1436 Alumacraft | 135 lbs

- 2x 30# Trust Minn Kota Motors

- Transom Mounted

PEOPLE & GEAR:

- 2 People & Gear

- 3 Batteries

- 2 Trolling Motors

- Approximate Carrying Weight = 500 lbs

TOP SPEED:

- 2.6 mph = Running 1 30# Trust Minn Kota

- 3.3 mph = Running 2 30# Trust Minn Kota

These test results were taken in ideal fishing conditions. There were low wave, current and wind conditions.

Based on my results, I believe I can get away using 2 - 3 55# Trust Minn Kota motors and reach optimum speed.
