Maine Smallmouth Scouting

Featured Replies

My wife and I are heading to Maine at the end of the month with the hopes of locating an area to kayak fish for smallmouth. I spent the better part of yesterday on the internet searching for what rivers we can scout out for next year to spend a week or two, but rent kayaks for this years trip. Can anyone help with a few suggestions of outfitters and locations please.

Maine is a pretty big state. There are a lot of quality smallmouth waters. I personally prefer to fish for them in lakes and ponds. What area of Maine will you be going to ?

Mostly the south east but will consider further upstate.

I know that the Saco river had a campground on the river which you could get dropped off upstream and float back down to the campground. My buddies sister and hubby own it, I havent seen him in a few years but last I knew it was still there. Could work as a home base to fish the river and its areas lakes and ponds, Lovewell, Kezar, Hancock, etc. are not to far away to check out.

Dameriscotta lake/river system loaded with smallmouth.

Depending where you are headed, the Androscoggin has some great smallmouth.
