pond hopper

Featured Replies

I have a 12ft jon boat I use for most of my fishing but when I'm going solo I want alittle more portability  I am 450lbs that being said a canoe and kayak is not my best option I was checking out the sundolphin 2 man boats  price range is around my budget  I know they say the max weight capacity of most of those are 500ish pounds  but for doing normal pond hopping small lakes ect  would that be a good option for me to  get out in the shallows that maybe my hon boat cant go or  if I am by myself   how tippy are they ect ive searched youtube ive seen vidoes of 4 people plus gear in them and they seem stable but you guys and gals fish with them     I don't plan on taking a craft like that on the river  or anything like that as I stated on small lakes/ponds and maybe some backwater places with extreme minimal current

thnks for the input

years ago, I tried one of those 15' plastic canoe's from Academy, because it was very light and easy to move around.  I might have gone 100 yards before I was totally convinced that was not for me and it went back to Academy.  My boat of choice for a pond hopper is my 1232 medium weight jon, or  my 13' Gheenoe.  If I have to drag it around, the jon does better because it's only about 90 pounds, the Gheenoe is about 130.

Never have had an interest in a yak.

How do you figure that sun dolphin to be more portable than a 12 Jon?  When I looked into the sun dolphin and bass raider type boats I was surprised how much they weigh.  What kind of 12 Jon are you running?
