"Small Ball" fishing

Featured Replies

So today, I went out to my favorite haunt and was determined to mix things up a bit.  I decided to slow things WAAAAAY down and do what I call "small ball" fishing.  Basically head out into the stump flats.  About 1/3 of the little lake I fish.  Lots of stumps, laydowns, brush, etc, and toss a weightless stick bait on 3/0 Gammy hook and let it flutter down amongst the  sticks, stumps, and weeds.  Fishing d**n near vertical in most places.

ABSOLUTELY TORE IT UP.

One of the best days I've had in a good long time.  Most everything was working but I had the best luck on a Bizzbait Icicle with the tip dipped in JJ's Charteuse..  Took patience and was NOT how I'm used to fishing plus lost a ton of hooks and such but holy cow.......definitely worth it.

I have been trying to work on my patience and use Senkos and jigs myself.. I find myself always power fishing. Slowing things down is a must.

That's where I'm best. I'm a tactical, patient person by nature. Power fishing is always my last choice whereas it seems to be the first choice for most people. A lot of it is an uncanny ability to call exactly where a fish is by reading the surroundings.
